Animals in the snow videos: Wild encounters on the ski slopes

Skiing and snowboarding can be deadly. Throw your body down a mountain on waxed pieces of wood at warp speed and you're just asking for trouble. Add wild animals to the equation and you may as well stay at home and pray the ebola doesn't get you.

One lucky snowboarder survived an avalanche in Russia this week. It could have been worse, he could have been taken out by the white rabbit with a death wish that threw itself across the incoming avalanche path - and jumped through it. Cue the internet going wild for the video.

Ski or snowboard in Canada and you could find yourself playing fisticuffs with a moose like these skiers in Quebec did.

Not just Canada either, skiers at Sugarbush in Vermont fended off the advances of this moose at their resort.

Not to be outdone, Steamboat Springs in Colorado had their own moose encounter on their slopes and it wasn't pretty.

Few realize that you can ski and snowboard at Whistler Blackcomb during the summer. Ski patrol didn't bother carding this black bear for not having a lift pass. Who would?

In Japan it's the serow you have to look out for. This guy took his chances at Happo One and won, just.

Whatever you do don't get into a snowball fight with the Japanese snow macaques either. They clearly know what they are doing.

Face shots take on a whole other meaning when arctic foxes come into play.

Meanwhile in China it's bring your tortoise to work day.

Lucky for us Australians all we have to worry about is the humble wombat foraging for food under the chairlift at Thredbo. Bless.
