After hundreds of entries were submitted, a winner has been chosen for Traveller's Big Picture competition.

Congratulations to Liesel Koelmeyer for her winning photo, taken in the French Alps.

Koelmeyer is a corporate lawyer who works from home, which allows her and her husband, who is also a keen photographer, to travel six months of the year and hone their photography skills.

"We did the trip up to Aiguille du Midi [at the Mont Blanc summit] from the Aosta Valley in Italy, where we were based for about a week." Koelmeyer says.

"We went up Monte Bianco from Courmaeur, Italy, and down Mont Blanc to Chamonix, France, and all the way back again, by three connecting cable cars. Of these, the Skyway Monte Bianco from Punta Hellbronner to Aiguille du Midi, was by far the best.

"It was my first real 'wow' moment on what had otherwise been a fairly uninspiring trip for me [when compared to the rest of my travels].

"The experience of sailing across the Alps in a cable car and having loads of time to soak in that magnificent view is one I'll never forget."

The Age photo editor Daniel Sprague, photographer Justin McManus and Traveller.com.au producers Annie Dang and Kylie McLaughlin spent a day pouring over the submissions before deciding on a winner."This image demonstrates great composition, good use of light and shade as well as scale and drama in the landscape. Winning Photograph!" Sprague said of the shot.

Age photographer Justin McManus agreed: "The photographer has put a lot of thought into this photograph in terms of composition. The viewer's eye is drawn into the picture from the right towards the trekkers who are dwarfed in an awe inspiring landscape and seemingly teetering on the edge of a great abyss, the eye then continues through the picture into the dramatic tones and textures of the ragged mountains. Great shot."Thanks to all of our readers for the hundreds of entries and congratulations again to Koelmeyer, who will travel with a friend on a luxury seven-night APT Mekong River cruise aboard the RV AmaLotus between Siem Reap and Ho Chi Minh City.
