Borden, Western Australia: Travel guide and things to do

Located 118 km north of Albany and 400 km south of Perth, Borden must surely be the only town in Australia named after a Canadian Prime Minister. It was named after Robert Laird Borden, the Prime Minister of Canada from 1911-1920.

Today it is a sleepy little town which services the surrounding wheat and sheep properties. With a rainfall of 350 mm and surrounded by attractive countryside, Borden is a good stopping point for people entering the Stirling Range National Park (see Cranbrook for further details).

Things to see

Local Flora and Fauna
It is notable for its wide variety of wildflowers and its rich abundance of native fauna: over 180 species of birds have been identified in the area. It has been estimated that between August and November it is possible to see over 1000 species of wildflowers in the Borden area.
