All class in KL

With tourism continuing to recover in south-east Asia's third largest economy, and with that economy continuing to grow nicely, it's no surprise AccorHotels has debuted its high-end Sofitel brand in the Malaysian capital, Kuala Lumpur.

Sofitel Kuala Lumpur Damansara, in well-heeled Damansara Heights, a desirable address five kilometres from the city centre, is within a large new multi-use development that includes condominiums, office towers and a mall. Handily, there's an MTR station nearby.

The Wilson Associates-designed property has 312 sizeable rooms, ranging from 43 to 105 square metres, with contemporary decor nodding to local heritage as well as the French heritage of Accor, an aesthetic extending to specially commissioned artworks throughout.

Suite guests have access to Club Millesime, where breakfast and evening cocktails are accompanied by spectacular views.

There are a further five restaurants and bars. The all-day dining restaurant Kwee Zeen serves Pan-Asian cuisine and Wan Chun Ting is fine dining Cantonese. It has four private dining rooms. Afternoon tea is served at Le Bar and there's a casual French bistro, Nizza.

Continuing the "urban resort" trend, the glam quotient goes up with a sexy outdoor pool and Malaysia's first Moroccan hammam, in addition to its SO FIT offering and SO SPA, with five treatment rooms, sauna and steam rooms.

An opening special has a two-night weekend stay for two with breakfast for RM398.35 ($A119) until December 1.
