Cosy up in Kokomo: Fiji's newest luxury resort opens its doors

Fiji's newest and most exclusive private island resort, Kokomo Island Fiji, officially opens this month after a soft opening that has seen guest villas quietly inhabited since January.

It's the glamorous baby of Australian property developer Lang Walker and his family; promo material says "Kokomo Island embodies his life enthusiasms: living near the water's edge, waterfront development and enjoying activities on the water".

And it's some pretty special water surrounding this island resort: on the edge of the Kadavu Island group it sits in the Great Astrolabe Reef, the fourth largest in the world. With diverse marine life just metres from the shores of Kokomo Island, the diving, snorkelling, fishing and kayaking opportunities abound in one of the most beautiful oceanic environments in the world. Included transfers from Nadi are via a Twin Otter sea plane or helicopter.

Kokomo has been designed to meet the needs of inter-generational travellers in barefoot luxury. Family-friendly facilities including supervised kids' club, pool, tennis court, spa and restaurants, complement the 21 Beachfront Villas, each with their own pool and private walled garden. There are kitchenettes with complimentary mini bar, high-speed internet and plentiful tech provisions, separate toilets and spacious living areas, plus nanny and butler service included, making accommodating the whole tribe a breeze.

But there is plenty to offer couples too, with one-bedders affording romantic seclusion.

There is also the Owners' Beachfront Residence and five Hilltop Luxury Residences offering some of the best views on the island.
