ROYAL VISIT

Cunard has announced that Queen Elizabeth will be based in Australia for an unprecedented 101 days over the 2019-20 summer season. The ship will sail on six roundtrip cruises from Melbourne and two from Sydney, featuring an array of itineraries to South Australia, Tasmania, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea between December 2019 and March 2020. The new 2020 Australian deployment will be almost double the length of Queen Elizabeth's scheduled 54-day season in Australia early next year, which sees the ship sailing from Sydney and Melbourne during February and March 2019.

The 13-night cruise (there are also three hotel nights) departs from Ushuaia and finishes in Punta Arenas, and spends eight days exploring the Antarctic Peninsula, including visits to vast penguin rookeries, sailing among icebergs and opportunities for whale and seal watching. Weather permitting, passengers can also kayak and hike, and have the option to camp for up to three nights on deserted beaches.

GOING SOLO

European river-cruise line Riviera Travel has announced that all cabins on two of its river cruises this November are exclusively for solo passengers, with no single occupancy supplement. The two cruises are an eight-day "Blue Danube" itinerary departing from Budapest on November 1, 2018, and an eight-day "Burgundy, River Rhone and Provence" cruise in the south of France departing on November 6, 2018. They aren't designed as matchmaking cruises but rather are for lone travellers, or friends who don't wish to share a stateroom. Riviera Travel already offers a selection of cabins on every cruise for supplement-free solo occupancy.
