Devon and Cornwall by B&B - and the pub

By Michael Gebicki

My wife and I are visiting Britain for two weeks in early May. Starting from Sussex, we want to spend nine days B&B touring by car through Cornwall and Devon. We want to sightsee as many interesting places as we can. Have you any suggestions on B&Bs where we can socialise with the locals?

In village England, high on any list of the prettiest places in Devon would be the villages of Clovelly, Lynton, Lynmouth and Dartmouth; in Cornwall, Mevagissey, St Ives, St Mawes, Polperro (pictured) and the ruins of Tintagel.

The Visit Cornwall website (visitcornwall.com) and Visit Devon (visitdevon.co.uk) have plenty of suggestions. Finding B&Bs should be no problem in May. There's no need to book - just stop when the spirit moves you and look around for somewhere to spend the night.

Socialising with the locals won't necessarily happen at a B&B. The place for company, camaraderie and conversation is at the pub and, in most cases, you can also get dinner.
