Kiwi Christian Gallen describes his profession as "death cheater", which no doubt helped him win a three week "DreamJob" as tour reporter when Nitro Circus Live visited New Zealand in July.

Gallen's winning video showed the adrenaline-rush stunts he and his mates have been filming since childhood – and also displayed his sense of humour. He pointed out the Nitro Circus stars would find it impossible to understand what fellow Kiwis were saying unless they had him as their translator.

DreamJobbing.com is a US-based "opportunity platform" offering once-in-a-lifetime short term employment opportunities.

Whether your dream job is a 'death cheater' or a 'global giver', DreamJobbing.com is giving people the chance to win a life-changing dream job.

To win, you have to make a one minute video explaining why you should get the "DreamJob" over scores of other applicants.

Successful candidates not only get to do their "DreamJob" but also figure in the DreamJobbing digital TV series.

The three most popular Dreamjobs so far have been typically varied. A week as a social buzz reporter for the New York cable show VH1's Big Morning Buzz Live. An 11-day stint as "a global giver" at the Los Angeles HQ of TOMS shoes, helping to give out millions of pairs of free shoes to children in need around the world. And the still-open $US10,000 prize to write an original song for Safe Auto's Enjoy The Road TV campaign.

The site also offered an 11-day stint as "a global giver" at the Los Angeles HQ of TOMS shoes.

No Australians have won a DreamJob yet. However company spokesperson Nikki Lee says, "Australia is actually the sixth highest location for visits to our website each month, sending us hundreds of visitors. We're also exploring DreamJob opportunities in Australia."

DreamJobbing is the brainchild of three American reality TV veterans – Alex Boylan (a winner on The Amazing Race), Lisa Hennessy (producer of episodes of such shows as Rock Star, Biggest Loser and Eco-Challenge) and Burton Roberts (co-founder, with Boylan, of Around The World Productions). It launched in 2015.

Their operations manager, Michelle Hatch, is an Australian who formerly worked for Tourism Australia in the US.

She says Aussies are particularly attracted to the DreamJobbing concept. "Whether you are an aspiring singer/songwriter, want to be a photojournalist or wildlife warrior, there is a DreamJob for you.

"In an increasingly competitive job market, DreamJobbing allows Australians to accelerate their careers by following a non-traditional approach to landing their the job of their dreams. Why wait?"

The DreamJobbing audience consists of mainly 18-35 year olds who have recently finished tertiary education and want to jump start their careers, though there is no educational restrictions.

"All of the applicants videos can be seen online," says Lee. "Even if an applicant doesn't get that particular job, they've created and promoted an amazing asset. "Many of our applicants have told us they've gotten other jobs based off their submissions."

Some of the DreamJobs - like the one American celebrity chef Rachael Ray is offering on her TV show in November – are subject to the winning candidate being able to gain the necessary working visas.

But there is plenty of time to apply for the DreamJob being offered by the Rio 2016 Sports Presentation Team which is looking for a sports-loving bi-lingual reporter to cover Rio Olympics and Paralympics in both English and Portuguese.

Founders Boylan and Hennessy flew to Norway to join Arnold Lan, the winner of the Norway Photojournalist DreamJob. It's a tough gig – but someone's got to do it.
