Evergreen launches 2019 European river cruise itineraries

EUROPE COMBINED

Evergreen has launched its 2019 European river cruises, ranging from an eight-day journey between Amsterdam and Basel to a 15-day "Three Rivers Discovery" cruise in Portugal and France. Among new offerings is a 16-day "Discover Croatia" journey that includes seven days cruising the coastline; a 15-day "Classic Danube and Lower Danube Waltz" cruise between Munich and Belgrade; and a 17-day journey from Split to Bucharest that combines a land tour with a Danube river cruise. Evergreen is also offering Russian cruises between St Petersburg and Moscow in combination with a cruise on the Lower Danube.

WINTER WONDERLAND

50 Degrees North has an exclusively escorted voyage through Norway and northern Finland that includes winter activities in Finnish Lapland such as a reindeer safari, visit to a traditional Sami village and a snowmobile safari, as well as an opportunity to meet Santa. The 14-day "Arctic Light & Hurtigruten" tour departs Oslo on January 7 2019 and includes hotel nights in Oslo and Bergen, a scenic train ride, and a six-night cruise along the Norwegian coast between Bergen to Kirkenes on Hurtigruten's Trollfjord, with activities including a husky ride and king crab fishing.

CHINDWIN CRUISE

Sanctuary Retreats is offering a river cruise along the Chindwin River that will take travellers through northern Myanmar almost to the Indian border. Sanctuary Ananda will sail the 10-night cruise from Mandalay to Paung Pyin and Bagan departing August 11 2018. The Chindwin is a scenic river flanked by steep granite banks, interspersed with rolling hills and verdant forest. Sights include the enormous Thanboddhay Pagoda in Monywa covered in 500,000 Buddha images, rural villages and rice paddies, the whitewashed pagodas of Masein, and cave pagodas over 300 years old.

RETURN TO ASIA

Windstar Cruises has announced its second Asian season for the 212-passenger Star Legend from this northern autumn, with 27 sailings that include the return of its previous cruises plus four new itineraries, and with more than 200 shore-excursion options. There are increased departures for popular Japan cruises timed with the cherry-blossom and autumn-leaves seasons, while new Asian itineraries include a comprehensive exploration of greater China; an Asian "pop culture" journey from Tokyo to South Korea and Beijing; and a Thailand and Malaysia cruise big on beaches and cities. A new itinerary in Indonesia includes Bali.

Oceania Cruises has introduced 16 new cooking classes for the 2018 European season aboard Marina and Riviera, both of which have a Culinary Centre equipped with individual cooktop workstations at which guests cook under the instruction of experienced chefs and restauranteurs. Among the new offerings is a comprehensive knife-skills class; a focus on Nordic cuisine such as salmon rillettes, gravlax and Swedish meatballs; and a "Rethink the Crêpe" class that explores world variations of this classic French treat. Other sessions take a look at lemons, Moroccan or Greek cuisine, brunch comfort food, pasta and seafood.
