WHICH WAS YOUR BEST HOLIDAY?

One of my most recent holidays was actually one of my best. I went to the Maldives earlier this year and it was amazing.

AND THE BEST HOTEL YOU'VE STAYED IN?

Always overpacks: Ronan Keating.

Always overpacks: Ronan Keating.

On that same trip, we stayed at The Viceroy Hotel, which was unbelievable – definitely the best hotel I've stayed at!

WHAT DO YOU ALWAYS TAKE WITH YOU?

When it comes to what to take, I always over-pack, and the bag ends up being overweight. Most importantly, I take my girlfriend Storm (although she doesn't actually go in my bag), my phone, sun cream, a book, my passport, toothbrush and toothpaste, some clean underwear and no doubt a pair or two of Storm's shoes, which she insists on taking and doesn't even end up wearing.

WHAT DO YOU NEED FOR A PERFECT HOLIDAY?

That's easy. Storm, the kids, plenty of sunshine, beautiful beaches, delicious food, wine and no schedule whatsoever.

WHAT'S YOUR BEST PIECE OF TRAVEL ADVICE?

Always find out where the locals like to go – they tend to be the best places. Only take what you need (I never do). You have to pack what you want to take and then take 20 per cent out. In Thailand, if they tell you your meal is a little "spicy", it's actually really hot. Finally – and I really hope no one actually would do this – but when skiing, do not eat yellow snow.

AND YOUR WORST EXPERIENCE ON HOLIDAY?

The worst experience I've ever had while on holiday was when I got wild fever in Singapore. I was bedridden for four days and suffered from hallucinations and vomiting. It was quite literally the most awful experience I have ever had.

WHAT IS THE BIGGEST PACKING MISTAKE YOU'VE MADE?

I'm sure there have been some horrendous packing mistakes that people have made, but fortunately I haven't done anything too drastic. I once forgot to take my passport, but luckily a friend rushed it to the airport for me. Another holiday I didn't pack enough sun cream, which meant I ended up with a lobster-red glow, though thankfully I'd packed enough after-sun aloe vera. Another time, I arrived at the airport and realised that all my underwear was left at home. I had to rush to Duty Free to buy a few pairs.

WHERE DO YOU WANT TO GO NEXT?

The next place that I really want to go to is Cuba. All I want to do is have a cigar, a rum and watch the sun go down.
