Singer-songwriter Tina Arena has a return visit to Greek island Santorini on her agenda.

WHICH WAS YOUR BEST HOLIDAY?

Santorini - I've been twice and want to go again. The first time was in the late '90s with Anna Vissi, the Greek diva; the second time was in 2004, when my partner Vince and I went for Mary Coustas' 40th birthday, so it was friends having a reunion and fun in the sun. We all chipped in and hired a sailing boat to take us around the island and we eventually ended up in a hot spring, slathering ourselves in mud. I love Greek cuisine, as it almost always includes fresh seafood and saganaki cheese.

AND THE BEST HOTEL YOU'VE STAYED IN?

Hotel Costes in Paris is up there with the best. I just love the interiors; they're perfect for eternal romantics like me. It feels like you're in a luxurious train cabin on the Orient Express, with fresh roses and scented amber candles. A step back in time. The food's wonderful as well.

WHAT DO YOU ALWAYS TAKE WITH YOU?

Everything and the kitchen sink! I'm the one with too many bags and excess luggage, every time. I tend to pack for all seasons.

WHAT'S YOUR BEST PIECE OF TRAVEL ADVICE?

Drink lots and lots of water on the flight, and avoid alcohol, as the altitude does some strange things to your body. I know first-hand, unfortunately.

AND YOUR WORST EXPERIENCE ON HOLIDAY?

In middle America, a staff member at the hotel kept calling me with inappropriate messages. I was with management, young at the time and it freaked me out, as there was nowhere else to stay. Luckily, the Sicilian has come out in me now, plus I can stay in better hotels.

WHERE DO YOU WANT TO GO NEXT?

Vietnam, and Buenos Aires in Argentina. I have family in South America who I want to spend time and explore with. And in Vietnam, I want to understand the Vietnamese-French connections, plus the architecture, furniture and cuisine there are beautiful. I get a real image of spirituality and humility when I think of Vietnam.

Tina Arena's national Reset Tour kicks off on August 15. See ticketek.com.au for details and bookings.
