BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS

Boston is one destination that is extremely significant to me, especially as we, Collette, are in our centennial year. After Collette's founding in 1918, our first tour to Florida departed from Boston. It was also the original location of our agency. There will always be something very sentimental about that city in terms of Collette's history.

As the first and oldest tour operator in North America, we have a long history of philanthropy. Supporting the communities in which we live, work and travel is in Collette's culture. I had the pleasure of visiting Drum Atweme in Australia, an Indigenous drumming group made up of disadvantaged young people from town camps around Alice Springs which Collette has supported for many years. The focus of this project is to create a positive influence and healthy atmosphere through the use of traditional music. It enables young people to be part of a publicly popular activity and has strong benefits.

ATLANTIC CITY, US

Atlantic City always makes me reflect back to the regional trips I would take down to the Eastern Seaboard in the 1950s. There are so many fond memories that I cherish from those trips, they're the kind of experiences that stay with you for a lifetime.

NEW YORK CITY, US

My family and I have travelled to New York City together many times. In the 'City that Never Sleeps', we have always found new and exciting places to explore. From iconic landmarks and sightseeing excursions such as the ferry to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island, Central Park, the Empire State Building and the poignant 9/11 Museum and Memorial, to the rich and diverse food and culture of China Town, delicatessens, Broadway and Times Square, there is always something for everyone.

US NATIONAL PARKS

Franklin D. Roosevelt said, "There is nothing so American as our national parks. The scenery and the wildlife are native. The fundamental idea behind the parks is native… The parks stand as the outward symbol of the great human principle." I love exploring our national parks and getting in touch with nature. South Dakota's Badlands National Park takes you off the beaten track into rugged wilderness. The park's geological deposits contain one of the richest fossil beds, where prehistoric beasts like the rhino and saber-toothed cat once dwelled. The expansive mixed-grass prairie is now home to bison, bighorn sheep, prairie dogs and blackfooted ferrets.

Dan Sullivan has more than 45 years in the travel industry. He chairs the Collette Foundation board, Collette's global not-for-profit for children. This year, Collette is celebrating 100 years in the industry. See gocollette.com.au
