Cabin Grey-and-red leather seats are in good condition with sliding headrests for a little extra height. At 173 centimetres I found this to be useful. Individual reading lights and a central air vent above each row.

Comfort Before the flight it's worth considering the add-ons the low-cost carrier offers for a smoother ride. Do this online. The savvy passengers have booked a "hot seat" within economy (in exit rows and bulkheads with greater pitch, $46), a meal (served before the main service starts), an ePlayer (all in use when I request one onboard, $9 with seven movies including Black Swan, seven TV shows including Grey's Anatomy and 100 audio choices) and a comfort pack (pillow, rug and eyemask, $12).

Service A highlight. Flight attendants are all glamour in snappy red skirts and fitted blazers with big hair and the longest false eyelashes. Super efficient and friendly on the near-full flight, they are serving until the descent into Delhi starts.

Food and beverage It is cash only onboard. The chicken biryani ($4) is sold out. I get the last serve of a spicy samosa ($1.80). Drinks include a piccolo of Jacobs Creek sparkling white wine ($9), Carlsberg beer ($3.60), bottled water ($1).

Flight frequency Once daily. A one-way sale fare costs from $136.
