Frequent flyer: Guy Sebastian

He’s topped the charts here and overseas, but for Guy Sebastian there’s no place like chilling out at his home on the NSW South Coast, writes Paul Ewart.

WHICH WAS YOUR BEST HOLIDAY?

I've been lucky enough to visit a lot of beautiful places and I don't really have a favourite as they're all special in their own way. I was lucky enough to get some time at the start of this year to road trip in Turkey, Spain and Germany – it was just me and my camera. I hit the road, stopping wherever I wanted and I got to take some amazing photos. I'll be exhibiting these early next year to raise money for my charity The Sebastian Foundation.

AND THE BEST HOTEL YOU'VE STAYED IN?

Just as he is: Guy Sebastian says he can work from anyway as long as he's got his laptop and guitar.

I loved the Marina Bay Sands in Singapore. The rooftop pool is crazy and the view across the city is beautiful.

WHAT DO YOU ALWAYS TAKE WITH YOU?

I always take my phone, my laptop, my camera and my guitar. I'd be lost without my phone as I face-time Jules and the boys whenever I can. And I can work anywhere as long as I have my laptop and guitar.

WHAT DO YOU NEED FOR A PERFECT HOLIDAY?

A perfect holiday would have to be one with Jules and the boys – I travel so much without them. It wouldn't be so much about where we went, but that we're together, sharing the adventure.

WHAT'S YOUR BEST PIECE OF TRAVEL ADVICE?

Travel light! The more you have, the more you have to carry. And you always find so many great things when you travel, so you need the room to fit all those extra purchases in.

AND YOUR WORST EXPERIENCE ON HOLIDAY?

Getting held up at knifepoint in LA was pretty scary and definitely not something I want to experience again,.

WHAT IS THE BIGGEST PACKING MISTAKE YOU'VE MADE?

Not having clothes for the climate I'm in. My schedule can change pretty quickly and I've been stuck in the desert with lots of winter coats and jumpers. Now I always make sure I have some options – just in case!

WHERE DO YOU WANT TO GO NEXT?

I've been on the road for a while now so I'd just love to have some uninterrupted time down at my place in Gerroa. The south coast of NSW is one of the most beautiful spots and I don't get to spend enough time there. We tend to just chill out, fishing, surfing and exploring all the beaches in the area.
