HOTEL
I love the Plaza Athenee Paris (plaza-athenee.com). It's supremely elegant and luxury-plus. I usually opt for a room with a view of the Eiffel Tower. In Australia I enjoy staying at the Sofitel in Melbourne (Sofitel-melbourne.com). They seem so pleased to see me that I feel like a friend coming to stay rather than a traveller.
AIRLINE
I am very impressed with the service Virgin Australia offers. On one occasion last year I had a long delay at the Gold Coast. When a plane finally arrived and I was on board for the return flight to Sydney I was handed a hand-written letter from the Virgin supervisor apologising for the delay. She had also organised for me to be met in Sydney and for the parking of my car to be paid for by the airline as a thank you for my patience.
RESORT
Qualia Resort on Queensland's Hamilton Island (qualia.com.au), with its spectacular views of the Whitsunday Islands and the Coral Sea is hard to beat. Sophisticated, peaceful, excellent cuisine, an irresistible infinity pool and superb gardens, the beauty of the place does wonders for your state of mind.
LUGGAGE
I choose quality lightweight luggage with wheels - so many suitcases are heavy before you put anything in them.
ACCESSORY
I never leave home without my comfortable long-sleeved navy blue cardigan as planes usually get cold on long hauls.
NEXT ADVENTURE
In November, after making it through Ocsober, I'm hoping to reward myself with a trip to Phuket in Thailand with my children and their families.
