After a change of ownership and a multi-million-pounds renovation, one of Britain's most legendary hotels, Gleneagles, has just been relaunched.

The gorgeous 1924 pile, sitting in 344 hectares of prime Scottish land, has been refurbished using many acclaimed designers.

Most famous for golf, Gleneagles, in Perthshire, one hour from Glasgow and Edinburgh airports and with its own railway station, is a "glorious playground of country pursuits", including falconry, horse-riding, tennis, off-roading, gun-dog training, clay-pigeon and game shooting and fishing, alongside those three revered championship courses.

It also offers Michelin-starred dining and an award-winning spa.

New owners, the London-based Ennismore, hired David Collins Studio, Timorous Beasties, Macaulay Sinclair, Goddard Littlefair and Ennismore's own in-house design studio with a brief to "celebrate the rich, glamorous heritage and beautiful architecture that the hotel is famed for."

The 232 luxury bedrooms and suites, done over by Goddard Littlefair, include furnishings, antiques and art selected to tell the story of Gleneagles.

Social spaces have been reconfigured to afford more of the dramatic views of the Perthshire countryside while creating a welcoming environment akin to a private club.

The Century Bar, "the beating heart of the hotel" with a famous collection of rare whiskies, has been refurbished by the esteemed David Collins Studio with references in textiles and tone to Scotland's dramatic seasons set off by ceramics and other pieces by Scottish artisans.

And the famous Dormy Clubhouse now has a craft beer pub, plus there's a new restaurant, bar and cafe joining Gleneagles' (and Scotland's only) two Michelin-starred restaurant, Andrew Fairlie, in the F&B offerings.
