Q.

Is a car with driver still the best way to experience all that Sri Lanka has to offer?

A.

It depends who you are, your budget and length of stay. For thrill seekers wanting to experience the real Sri Lanka on a budget, a combination of hair-raising bus rides to the coast, government trains through the hill country and tuk tuks in towns will guarantee a memorable experience. Nor is a car with driver necessary even for a more luxurious Sri Lankan itinerary. On the Podi Menike train, originally built by the British in the 19th century, enjoy a scenic ride through the picturesque hill and tea country, a history lesson and panoramic views. A sea plane is the ultimate shortcut, with lagoons or reservoirs strategically placed near key destinations. Sailing is an upcoming experience, spotting blue and humpback whales or to reach the pearl island's beaches and bays. For a slice of rural life, hire a bicycle and ride through the verdant paddy fields. When you've had all this fun, feel free to rejoin your driver to tackle the traffic and toll booths and deliver you to the airport. manorhouseconcepts.com
