NUMBER OF COUNTRIES VISITED

39.

I GOT MY FIRST PASSPORT WHEN I WAS 18

Chef and and restaurateur Luke Mangan.

Chef and and restaurateur Luke Mangan.

in 1988 for my first overseas trip – to Bali with a few mates.

MY PASSPORT PHOTO IS

too serious-looking.

I CAN'T STOP GOING BACK TO

the jewel of the Amalfi coast in southern Italy, Positano. I love the food and the restaurants and there is a hotel there called Il San Pietro Di Positano which has a very cool swimming platform over the ocean for hotel guests which is truly the best.

MY LAST TRAVEL DESTINATION WAS

glamping at Ventana Big Sur, a resort on the Californian coast, overlooking the Pacific Ocean, for two nights. It was a new experience – and one not to be missed – on a drive from San Francisco to Los Angeles.

MY NEXT TRAVEL DESTINATION IS

Melbourne for Easter catching up with friends and family, and also having a lunch at my chef friend Teage Ezard's Levantine Hill winery in the Yarra Valley.

I'M REALLY LOOKING FORWARD TO

the family Easter Sunday lunch and also Teage's tasting menu.

WHAT I REALLY WANT FROM MY NEXT TRIP IS

lots of great food and wine and a relaxing four-day break.

I LOVE TO TRAVEL BECAUSE

I love visiting different countries' markets and restaurants, and learning from them.

MY TRAVEL PHILOSOPHY IS

keep it simple.

THE ONE TRAVEL MISTAKE I ALWAYS MAKE IS

wearing lace-up boots through US border security

THE ONE THING I REALLY DO GET RIGHT WHEN I TRAVEL IS

packing light.

IF I HAD TO SIT IN THE MIDDLE SEAT THE OTHER PASSENGERS I'D WANT ON EITHER SIDE OF ME WOULD BE

former US President Bill Clinton for his knowledge and Lady Gaga so she could sing to me …

THE ONE FAMOUS TRAVELLER I REALLY ADMIRE IS

Captain Cook. He did it all!

THE ONE FAMOUS PERSON I'D LIKE TO TRAVEL WITH IS

entrepreneur and Virgin Group founder Sir Richard Branson because I already have, and it was fun.

AIRLINE FOOD IS

good, as I'm lucky enough to be able to travel up the front. And I actually do the food myself for Virgin Australia so we really do have the best food in the sky, if I say so myself.

HOTELS ARE

fantastic. I travel a lot and enjoy a good hotel. I'm very design-focused and tend to stay in more boutique hotels where I can.

I'VE ALWAYS WANTED TO GO TO

Antarctica on a cruise. It's been a childhood dream, forever on my bucket list, to experience the adventure and see all the wildlife in their natural surroundings. Another ambition is to see the Festival of Colours, or Holi, in India.

I'VE NEVER WANTED TO GO TO

Pakistan, a place which has never excited me.

AISLE OR WINDOW?

Always window as I love watching flying into a new city or flying back home into Sydney.
