The location Kangaroo Valley is one of the gems of the NSW south coast. It's close enough to Sydney to make for an easy weekend escape, but far enough away to totally relax and unwind from a stressful week.

The place The timber cabin is basic, but has been made to feel cosy and homely; the kitchen, in particular, has been stocked with all the utensils and appliances you could possibly need.

The cabin is fully self-contained, with a bizarre mixture of furniture and wall hangings that sit incongruously next to each other. There is a master bedroom, which also has two bunk beds, and two more bunk beds in the living area. The cabin's deck overlooks the golf course and the surrounding mountains of the Meryla State Forest.

The experience If you and your family love golf and relaxing, this cabin is for you. Privately owned, it is situated on a par-72 golf course as part of the Kangaroo Valley Golf & Country Resort. If golf isn't your thing but you want to be active, there's also a small swimming pool and a tennis court. Two nights is the perfect amount of time to absorb the area's peacefulness and enjoy the star-gazing. The tourist drives are beautiful and a trip into the main street of Kangaroo Valley, Moss Vale Road, is worthwhile (and necessary if you want to eat out).

Don't miss The highlight of Kangaroo Valley is its beauty. Make sure you take a day trip to the neighbouring town of Berry - as much for the drive as the destination. It takes about 30 minutes as you wind around State Tourist Drive 7 - The Panoramic View Route. At times you'll feel as if you're in the midst of a rainforest, then, as you head around the corner, you'll be confronted with breathtaking mountain views. Another excellent tourist drive is The Waterfalls Route, which meanders around the spectacular Fitzroy Falls.
