Life can be hard for seals living off the coast of Canada's Vancouver Island.

Seals - also known as 'sausages of the sea' - often make good snacks for orcas, who are common predators in the waters that border the USA.

Orcas will toss or slap larger prey such as sea lions or dolphins to stun and immobilise them.

Sometimes, they are just plain cruelly playing with their food.

However, this lucky seal was not giving this particular pod of orcas the chance. Seizing an opportunity to escape, it wiggles aboard a nearby boat.

We understand he waited on the boat for around 30 minutes before making a tentative slip back into the ocean.
