Mandarin Oriental Landmark, Hong Kong: New The Apartment Suite opens

Since its golden age establishment, the Mandarin Oriental brand has long epitomised Hong Kong's cultural heartbeat. Alongside the legendary Mandarin Oriental, its financial centre sister property, Mandarin Oriental Landmark is as much a part of that, with its two Michelin-starred Amber restaurant and fabulous MO Bar, a late night favourite with the glitterati.

Fittingly again, in a city that seems to regularly reset the bar on Asian glamour, the hotel has upped its own ante, introducing the first of two new suites that, at 139 square metres, is more like one of the city's finest apartments.

Designed by award-winning Hong Kong architect, Joyce Wang, The Apartment Suite is an elegant, airy abode with a private entrance leading to an open plan living area filled with custom-designed furnishings in a palette of gold, caramel and royal blue, including a three-metre-wide, curved sofa with two matching armchairs, and an enormous, richly textured hand-tufted rug on the wooden floor, among other specially commissioned artworks.

A space set for impressive entertaining, the dining area has a cocktail bar and pantry stocked with gourmet fare. A perforated brass chandelier paired with a six-seat crackled gesso-finish dining table that imitates the natural beauty of bark set the scene, while a Gaggenau-fitted kitchen feeds it.

A study area contains a large custom desk and the master suite features a bed with quilted leather headboard, separate walk-in dressing spaces and marble bathroom with deep bath and separate walk-in rain shower.

The suite can be transformed into a nearly 186-square-metre two-bedroom residence when combined with an adjacent guest room via an interconnecting door.

A second suite will be the hotel's largest, and is scheduled for completion in mid-2017.
