The owners of Santorini's cool 12-suite Istoria hotel have created another gem of design and understated glamour, this time on Paros, not far away in the Greek Cyclades.
Kalia and Antonis Eliopoulos engaged Athens-based Interior Design Laboratorium to create Parilio, their fourth property (they have another two on their home of Santorini), with a brief to capture the serenity of the island as well as its dreamlike scenery of whitewashed villages and cobalt-domed churches against a background of granite cliffs and the sparkling beaches of the Aegean.
The 33-suite Parilio is ample in architectural features such as arches, concrete columns and thick masonry that are designed to echo traditional building techniques and help to create a sense of sanctuary. A neutral palette and natural materials cradle a collection of vintage and modern furniture as well as contemporary Greek design pieces, objets d'art by leading European designers and North African ceramics.
Parilio's restaurant and patio, Mr. E, serves fresh, seasonal Greek and Mediterranean cuisine, while the hotel's glorious pool and sun deck invite long languid afternoons and sundowners. The spa offers treatments based around essential oils.
And when it's time to step out, Parilio's convenient location on the island's north-eastern coast, places guests within easy reach of the famously stunning Kolympithres beach and the town of Naoussa.
