Plane grounded due to suspicious smell

A Qantas flight from Sydney to Singapore has been grounded in Darwin last night after reports of a mysterious odour that some passengers thought smelled like burnt electrical wiring.

Firefighters boarded the 747 plane when it landed in Darwin shortly after 9pm to search for the source of the odour.

The 305 passengers on board Qantas flight QF5 were to be put up in hotels near Darwin airport overnight and were expected to resume their journeys in the morning, a Qantas spokeswoman said.
