Police investigate sabotage at the Big Pineapple

The Big Pineapple.

The Big Pineapple.

A possible act of sabotage is being investigated at one of Queensland's big tourist attractions.

The Sunshine Coast's Big Pineapple is being restored after it went into receivership in 2009 and closed down.

Its plantation train ride was due to reopen on Saturday when staff discovered carefully laid grease on the tracks, which was assessed as a safety risk.

Police are investigating the act, which staff say will take a week to clean up.

Hundreds of people keen to take the 2.4km journey again had to be turned away.

Anyone with information is urged to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
