Tourism Queensland is investigating media claims that a top candidate for the "Best Job in the World" worked for a porn studio.

The tourism body is investigating allegations that the top 50 applicant Julia Yalovitsyna from Russia worked as a model for an illegal online porn studio and coached women for sexually explicit films.

The Sun newspaper in London reported the Hamilton Island dream job candidate was allegedly linked to a chain of erotic studios and was under police investigation in her home city of Petrazavodsk.

Ms Yalovitsyna has accumulated 42,319 online votes from the public so far, positioning her in second place just after a Taiwanese woman named Clare.

Her video entry includes Ms Yalovitsyna in a black bikini, pretending to be on a yacht with a man splashing water on her.

A Tourism Queensland spokeswoman said Yalovitsyna would continue to be in the race.

"We are taking the claims made in the media seriously and are currently investigating the matter," the spokeswoman said.

"Tourism Queensland will decide on a course of action once we have accurate information."

Ms Yalovitsyna was shortlisted from thousands of applicants vying to be a caretaker on Hamilton Island.

The winner will be required to enjoy the spoils of the island while producing video blogs promoting it to potential tourists.
