Queensland tourism boss quits

Tourism and Events Queensland boss Steven Wright has made a sudden departure from the organisation.

TEQ group executive Megan Saunders confirmed Mr Wright had resigned on Wednesday, effective immediately, because of health reasons.

Mr Wright had been in the role for nine months.

Leanne Coddington, who is part of the organisation's executive, has stepped in as interim chief executive.

"She has stepped into the interim role, which is great," Ms Saunders said.

"A long term replacement will be advised in due course."

The loss of Mr Wright, whose appointment to the job in December 2012 was described by Tourism Minister Jann Stuckey as "an exciting new era for tourism in Queensland", will be another blow to the minister who has also lost 14 staff from her office in 17 months.

Ms Stuckey said her staff had left for a multitude of different reasons, including retirement and a staff rotation policy.

Comment has been sought from Ms Stuckey about Mr Wright's departure.
