Reaching for the Moon

By Sally Webb
Mira Moon, Hong Kong.

Hong Kong's boutique hotel boom continues unabated with the recent opening of Mira Moon in the busy commercial district of Wan Chai.

Sister hotel to the Mira Hong Kong in Kowloon, the 91-room Mira Moon is a marriage of Chinese modernist design, cutting edge technology and traditional Asian hospitality.

Chinese mythology, in particular the Moon Festival fable, is the basis of the hotel's interior decor, with design group Wanders & yoo creating dramatic communal spaces using bold and vibrant colour, carved and lacquered woods and illustrative tiling. Sticking with the theme, room categories range from the cosy Half Moon to more spacious Full Moon and New Moon with views over Victoria Harbour.

Each guestroom has superior techno including AirPlay music systems and iPads ready-loaded with apps for hotel services and city information.

Dedicated women-only floors will appeal to female travellers, with amenities including cosmetics, curling irons and facial steamers, as well as access to emergency items like leggings, heels and fashion tape. And of course there's chocolate in the mini bar if it's a real emergency.

When you get peckish, Super Giant restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, as well as cocktails and "Spanish-Chinese fusion" tapas during the popular happy hour. Doubles from $HK4000 ($590). See designhotels/mira_moon.
