Antiquity meets urbanity at 69/70 Pasquino, a narrow five-storey building in the heart of Rome's centro storico, or historical centre. This 17th century townhouse has been turned into the eternal city's newest luxury boutique hotel, with the aim to give visitors "the Rome of the Romans."

Comprising 10 amazing suites set over all five floors, the Design Hotels member features a scintillating mix of mid-century Italian furniture and iconic accents by designers such as Ico Parisi, Gio Ponti, and Guglielmo Ulrich juxtaposed with the classic Italian architecture of days gone by, such as original beamed ceilings and sketchy walls showing remnants of frescos past.

As well, find different art each visit – pieces from an exemplary collection of modern Italian works are rotated regularly.

A stone's throw from Rome's beautiful Piazza Navona and its famous fountains and sculptures by Bernini, the stunning suites make for very special springboards to all that is great about this lively city. The in-house lifestyle butler is there to impart local knowledge and organise special foodie and art experiences.

But some may just want to linger and enjoy those exquisite interiors. "We're presenting a very Italian sense of luxury, one with history, design, art, and a touch of whimsy," says the person behind the development, entrepreneur Gabriele Salini, who along with his business partner, Emanuele Garosci who died late last year, was also behind the Philippe Starck–designed Palazzina G in Venice.
