SPLENDID IDEA

Regent Seven Seas Cruises has unveiled the inaugural season for its new ship Seven Seas Splendor, which launches in February 2020. The luxury vessel will voyage across Europe on 15 itineraries that include the British and Greek islands, the Italian and French Riviera, Spain and Portugal and a trans-Atlantic crossing. Among them is an Enchanting Mediterranean cruise from Venice to Rome that takes in the Cannes Film Festival in May 2020 and an Exquisite Riviera cruise from Rome to Barcelona, also in May, that includes a visit to Monte Carlo during the Monaco Grand Prix.

TUCK IN

Uniworld is transforming current river ship River Royale, renaming it Bon Voyage when it resumes service in France's Bordeaux region as the company's sixth Super Ship in April 2019. The ship will have two new dining venues in addition to its main venue: casual dining with lighter local fare and oven pizzas, and a bistro offering shared plates. The ship's private dining venue Claret's will be enhanced to offer Captain's Table dining and VIP wine tastings. There will also be upgrades to some suites, gym and spa facilities, and the top deck.

NORTHERN ISLANDS

A new 12-day cruise from Poseidon Expeditions will depart Edinburgh on June 3, 2019, on the recently refurbished 114-passenger Sea Spirit and sail in three countries and across the Arctic Circle. The From the Highlands to the High Arctic itinerary visits the Orkney and Shetland islands in Scotland and Denmark's Faroe Islands before arriving in Spitzbergen, the largest and only populated island in the Svalbard Archipelago, part of Norway. Activities directed by polar guides include Zodiac excursions, hiking and kayaking. Guests disembark in Longyearbyen, Spitzbergen's administrative capital. Book before November 1, 2018, for an early-bird discount.

YOUTHFUL FRANCE

Tauck has a new river cruise on the Seine River in 2019. The Impressions from the Seine itinerary is the company's third on the French river, but shorter at eight days to appeal to younger travellers with more limited holiday time. It also features more active shore excursion choices, an increase in healthy menu options, and on-board yoga-inspired stretching classes. The cruise on Sapphire begins with a full day in Paris and is followed by visits to Versailles, Rouen, Normandy's D-Day beaches, Les Andelys, Vernon and Monet's house and gardens at Giverny.
