An extensive renovation transformed Anantara Angkor Resort, near Cambodia's Angkor Wat temple site, into an all-suite property. Now the two presidential suites, the Henri Mouhot and Anantara Explorer Suites are open, offering opulence and old-world Khmer style.

The two-bedroom, 235-square-metre Henri Mouhot Suite (named after the French naturalist and explorer who was the first westerner to come across the ruins of Angkor), accommodates up to six guests and the one-bedroom 178-square-metre Anantara Explorer Suite with interiors inspired by silk merchant Jim Thompson, accommodates up to three.

With ample indoor and outdoor living spaces, the suites are designed to comfortably accommodate families or small groups that can spread out across a lounge and bar area with a wine humidor, two dining areas, marble bathrooms with double vanity, bathtub and oversized rain shower, plus a private spa room with a Jacuzzi bath tub, deep plunge and massage area; and a plunge pool in an enclosed private garden.

It's the work of the award-winning Thailand-based Abacus Design have used details such as sandstone relief to reflect the nearby ruins of Angkor, as well as colonial touches such as tongue and groove ceilings. In both suites boldly-coloured silk and other fabrics from the Jim Thompson Leo De Janeiro collection give the spaces cosiness.

All guests at the 39-key Anantara Angkor Resort are privy to complimentary chauffeured round-trip airport transfers, unlimited private tuk tuk transfers to and from the city centre, a personal mobile phone, complimentary in-suite bar and coffee as well as drinks during the daily Lounge Hour in the resort's courtyard.

Suite prices start at $US192 a night. Presidential suite rates on request. Phone +855 63 966 788 or email angkor@anantara.com. See anantara.com
