The best places to eat breakfast, lunch and dinner in Provence, France: Jeany Cronk

By Julietta Jameson

THE EXPERT

Alongside husband Stephen, Alsace-born Brit, Jeany Cronk is the co-founder of Mirabeau en Provence, a rosé producer whose wines are sold in Australia. See mirabeauwine.com

COFFEE

Provence is the very definition of food temptation and drinking your morning coffee on a cobbled street, with the sound of a fountain nearby, is literally one of the best moments you could live. Most cafes will let you bring in whatever you fancy from the nearest bakery, which makes it even more fun. For our morning coffee, we love a crumbly croissant happily eaten in the gorgeous cafe in our home village of Cotignac, called Le Temps de Pose. It's in the old quarter, with tables outside under the shade of a lovely tree. (No website: 11 Place de la Mairie, Cotignac)

MARKET

There's a market in every village at least once a week, where you find the best local produce, as well as a host of arty and crafty things. It's also the perfect moment to socialise and practice your French. You can buy all the ingredients for a market lunch or just stop, look and enjoy the spectacle. Most markets are lovely, but we enjoy the market of Aups, Lourmarin and Aix especially.

LUNCH

For a really authentic, full-of-laughter lunch with typical food, go to the Bistrot du Paradou, in the beautiful region at the foot of the imposing Alpilles mountains. Famous for its salted cod aioli andcheeseboard, the staff are equally known for their fantastic jokes and for remembering every diner's name. You will come out of there with an equally full heart and belly. (No website: 57 Avenue de la Vallee des Baux, Paradou)

SNACK

Estagnol is one of the amazing beaches in the region and it's in one of the most beautiful pine forests of the Mediterranean Sea. After a swim and a frolic, head straight for Restaurant L'Estagnol, and satiate the hunger you've worked up with a shared stone fired pizza. You could go the lobster spaghetti or a lovely tarte Tropezienne if really hungry. And you can always swim in the beautiful water again afterwards to atone for it. See restaurant-lestagnol.fr

DINNER

Go the piece de resistance, namely the classic provencal fish stew, the famous bouillabaisse, but done the "Petit Nice" way. A symphony of flavours and textures will make you want to become a resident of Marseille. Enjoy while you are sitting on the terrace at star chef Gerald Passedat's stunning seafood restaurant, the triple-Michelin-starred Le Petit Nice, looking out over the glistening Mediterranean with the sun setting and feel like a god in France.
