INDIA

Growing up in the West was amazing; the roads are clean and quiet, our lives ordered and predictable. Visiting India was the polar opposite, we were surrounded by my large, extended family, the streets were chaotic, full of people, noise, colour, street vendors and even cows. As a young child this all appeared very magical and alive. India has shaped my inner-self. I have a strong sense of my heritage, a love of Ayurveda, a sense of spirituality and a gratitude for all that we take for granted. I still visit regularly, mostly for work, and each time is as exciting and colourful as the last.

SYDNEY

I first went to Australia on my honeymoon and I thought that would be my only chance to visit. We now sell our range of Indian products, The Spice Tailor, in Australia so I visit twice a year. I love Sydney, with its relaxed attitude, multi-cultural society and beautiful beaches. Even when I go for work, and get there after a 24-hour journey, I am relaxed and excited to be there. I think Sydneysiders have the right work-life balance and I am the best version of myself when I am there.

THE US

I have visited the US many times. Of all the cities I've spent time in, New York has always been my favourite, with its vibrant restaurant scene, incredible energy and fast pace of life. I really admire the American can-do attitude and the belief that if you work hard, you will be successful. I feel if you don't try, you never know and you don't grow. I love the entrepreneurial spirit of the US.

SWITZERLAND

I spent 10 very happy years of my childhood in Geneva and even though I left decades ago, I still feel at home there. Switzerland gave me a love of being outdoors; I am happiest when I'm in the mountains. Switzerland also has a love of quality in all things and this was instilled in me at an early age, especially when it comes to food. The ingredients used are of the best quality, whether it is the rich dairy, freshwater fish or local vegetables – the resulting meals are truly delicious. I think quality always pays in the long run.

THAILAND

After Indian, my favourite meals are from the Far East; I love the complex, spicy flavours. Travelling for food is enough of a reason for me to visit a country but I love Thailand for more than just the food. I have friends and family there, so have visited often. I love the culture, the temples and Buddhas, the beaches, jungles and clear waters. The people are warm, hospitable and have a calm unhurried pace that I crave and need. Thailand relaxes me profoundly.
