Emily Seebohm: Five places that changed my life

BEIJING

It holds many memories close to my heart as my very first Olympics were held there. I got to swim in the Water Cube and won gold for Australia beside three of my sporting heroes. I didn't get to see much on my first trip in 2008, but since then I have been back and visited the Great Wall with my Mum, Karen. It was amazing, we had a "proper girls' trip" and had a great time going to the markets and taking in the sights.

ROME

My first trip overseas was for a swim meet in Rome – I know, lucky me. I was 15 and had never been on a plane for so long a journey. I must admit, I had wanted to go to Rome since 2003 when The Lizzie McGuire Movie came out. When I arrived, I couldn't believe that Rome looked even better than in the movie. Seeing all those amazing tourist spots in person was breathtaking, the food was pretty good, too. I have been there many times since my first trip and always seem to find something new. My partner Mitch Larkin and I did Rome last year and went just outside the city and found the most magical garden ... funnily enough from The Lizzie McGuire Movie.

PARIS

I can't even describe what it felt like seeing the Eiffel Tower for the first time. I am still unsure if I dreamt the whole thing. Paris was everything I imagined and more. You can spend days looking at art, or shopping or just taking in the sights. Sitting at cafes eating lunch and people watching while looking out at the Arc de Triomphe was incredible. The first time I went to Paris was in 2015 and even though I was only there for three days, I loved every minute of it. It was an experience I'll remember for the rest of my life.

NEW YORK

I watch a lot of TV shows that are filmed in New York so I have wanted to go for a long time. Mitch and I went before Christmas in 2016 and spent 10 days in the Big Apple, which definitely wasn't long enough. While we were there we saw all the shop window Christmas decorations, went ice skating in Bryant Park and had a snow day. We had so much fun. We can't wait to go back and maybe even live there one day.

DUBAI

I have seen Dubai from the airport on many stopovers, but my first trip into the city was in 2014. It was a three-day holiday after coming back from a swimming trip, I was with my Mum and fellow swimmer Ellen Fullerton. We stayed at the Atlantis, the Palm and spent our days at the hotel's water park and by the beach.
