The amazing makeover of Singapore's Robertson Quay precinct is just about complete with the opening of the much anticipated Intercontinental Robertson Quay this month.

It follows three other new hotels having opened in the precinct in the past 18 months: the 37-room, ultra-cool Warehouse Hotel, Four Points by Sheraton Singapore, which was a rebranding of the former Riverview Hotel after a $25 million renovation, and M Social.

The InterContinental arrives to complement the overhaul of the waterfront restaurant and lifestyle zone, The Quayside, home to a carefully curated collection of concept eateries, all making this formerly seedy section of the river now one of the city's hippest.

The Intercontinental combines 225 luxurious studios and suites, including a vast penthouse, with views of the Singapore River and city, with a variety of dining options including the first Wolfgang's Steakhouse in Singapore onsite. Publico, an Italian-inspired deli, pizzeria and restaurant is personally created by Kishin RK Hiranandani, the 30-something Singaporean who acquired the hotel and retail sites in 2012 and masterminded their regeneration.

Mark Winterton, general manager, InterContinental Singapore Robertson Quay, says the property's layout and food and beverage mix are designed to give hotel guests a "residential-inspired" vibe, so they feel connected to "the city's most reinvigorated neighbourhood."

Decor elements inside rooms also play to those themes. Architects SCDA, combine notes from Robertson Quay's industrial past with slate, brushed copper and bronzes while custom-made furnishings and bespoke amenities such as a specially designed in-room cocktail kit by Singaporean craft spirit empire Proof & Company add the homely touches.

Rooms from SGD$327.99. See ihg.com
