Azamara Club Cruises has a new range of more than 100 "Connect Local" shore excursions in Australia and Asia as Azamara Journey sails for the third season in the region from October 2018. Guests can learn the secrets of Malaysian cooking in Penang, enjoy a helicopter ride in Tasmania, tour the spice markets and rural villages of Goa in India, and cycle thorough Ho Chi Minh City or Hoi An in Vietnam. There's also the option of a culinary adventure on Kangaroo Island with visits to a honey producer, eucalyptus distillery and sheep dairy.

QUEEN OF ALASKA

Cunard is sailing to Alaska on a series of voyages beginning in May 2019 when Queen Elizabeth journeys from Japan to Vancouver via Kodiak, Juneau, Tracy Arm Fjord, Skagway, Icy Strait Point, Sitka and Ketchikan. The ship will remain in Alaska to operate a series of four 10-night round trips from Vancouver that feature scenic cruising through the Inside Passage and full days in Alaska's highlight ports. Queen Elizabeth then continues down the west coast of the US and through the Panama Canal to New York.

PATAGONIAN ADVENTURE

Latin American tour operator Contours Travel has launched its first hosted cruise-tour, with departures from Australia on October 28, 2018, and February 22, 2019. The new 29-day "Antarctica and Patagonia" tour begins in Santiago in Chile and visits Punta Arenas, Torres del Paine National Park and Perito Moreno Glacier. Guests then board expedition ship Akademik Ioffe in Ushuaia for a 12-night, round-trip voyage to Antarctica. During the cruise, guests can take part in camping onshore, snowshoeing, trekking, zodiac cruising and whale watching. The tour finishes with visits to Buenos Aires and Iguazu Falls.

VIKING EXPLORATIONS

Viking Cruises has two new ocean itineraries for northern spring and summer 2019. The 13-day "Iceland's Majestic Landscapes" itinerary starts with an overnight in Bergen and visits other Norwegian destinations Alesund, Flam and Geirangerfjord. It continues to Denmark's remote Faroe Islands before sailing into three Icelandic ports and overnighting in Reykjavik. Meanwhile the new 11-day "Russia and the Baltic Sea" cruise is bookended by Stockholm and Copenhagen, with three days in St Petersburg and visits to Tallinn, Visby and Bornholm. Book by the end of this year for savings of $1000 per couple.

WILD CROSSING

Windstar Cruises has a new "Aleutians & North Pacific Crossing" cruise that will sail an unusual route between Seward in Alaska and Tokyo over the course of 16 days in 2018. The cruise emphasises less-frequented ports of call and will retrace the route of the Russian-American fur trade as it island hops along the Aleutian Archipelago. Passengers can sport-fish and spot bears in Kodiak and visit king-crab port Dutch Harbour that features in the TV series The Deadliest Catch. The cruise departs on September 10, 2018, on Star Legend.
