Our accommodation was first class, set in a tropical surround, comfortable beds. Everything so spick and span and the staff who are the friendliest and most helpful folks you could wish to meet – nothing was a trouble! There was also a baby-sitting service.

Where the wonderful cooks came from I know not, but the food (fresh and from the resort's own gardens) was delicious and something the 80+ guests looked forward to each night.

Breakfast had more than enough choices, lunch you could have in, or have a picnic barbecue delivered to the beach of your choice or have a picnic lunch pack if you decided to go on one of the many walks around the island. There is no Wi-Fii, TV or internet. Instead, one talked to family, made friends, read, hired a bike and rode or walked through palm tree tracks to the lovely white sanded clean sparkling beaches. We also hand-fed the many colourful fish, went snorkelling or just took time to lie back and read – Pinetrees Resort has a well-stocked library.

Snorkelling is easy at Lord Howe Island.

Each morning at breakfast the knowledgeable staff would offer advice and give you a program for the day with tidal times, temperature and wind direction. There is also a free guest laundry.

BEST BITS Being there, good company, being treated as someone special by the staff.

WORST BIT Having to leave.
