Should we spend one week in Norway or Iceland? We're looking for good food and wine

MY BOYFRIEND AND I HAVE A WEEK FOR EITHER NORWAY OR ICELAND IN APRIL NEXT YEAR. KEEN FOR SIGHTSEEING, LOVE GOOD FOOD AND WINE. CAN YOU MAKE THE CHOICE ANY EASIER? K. MUDGE, WICKHAM

Tough call but if you want spectacle and drama from your travels, Iceland. It's mother nature with her hair down. The scenery is astonishing, it packs glacier treks, mountains, volcanoes and fiords in a compact package that you can experience in one day. The whole island makes you think of fairies and goblins, and where else can you take a dip in a geothermal lagoon in the middle of a snowstorm? It also produces an extraordinary people, with a mixture of Nordic and Celtic blood in their veins and a tendency to channel their Viking ancestry on Friday and Saturday nights in Reykjavik. Good food and wine, not really, Iceland isn't the place, but given what else is on your plate you won't be disappointed.

Norway runs a very close second in jaw-dropping scenery and it adds a generous dose of Scandinavian sophistication to one of the most beautiful countries on the planet. My one reservation in recommending Norway for your holiday is time. A week is just too short for a country so majestically endowed.
