The Ultimo: World's first astrology hotel opens in Sydney

Australian boutique hotel group 8Hotels has opened the world's first astrology hotel in Sydney. Located in the Chinatown district, The Ultimo Hotel, a heritage listed building, has been given a new look with new rooms that are aligned with 'the stars'.

Curated with astrologer Damian Rocks, the hotel offers guests a Sydney city experience based on their star signs. This includes travel guides on places to eat and drink and things to see and do based on whether you are an Aquarius, Cancer or Sagittarius (hint: The Glenmore is where you should have a drink).

The boutique hotel is the newest themed-hotel in Sydney, with 1888 Hotel opening in Sydney in 2013 as an Instagram hotel. Refurbished in October 2016, The Ultimo features 95 rooms across seven room categories, including Ultimo Single to Ultimo Courtyard. The hotel offers zodiac-themed 'Do not disturb' signs, daily horoscopes with their newspapers, slippers in matching zodiac designs as well as monthly updated horoscopes on the website. Let's not forget the astrolo-tea specially selected to match your zodiac sign and an astrology library. The complimentary Wi-Fi and a barista coffee station remain astrology-themed free.

If you aren't a keen astrological being, The Ultimo's convenient location and affordable price point makes it an attractive option. The hotel is within walking distance to Darling Harbour, the Capitol Theatre, where shows such as the Lion King and Wicked have played (currently showing Aladdin) and some of the city's best and cheapest places to eat. It's within minutes' walk of buses, light rail stops, and Central train station and across the street from Paddy's Markets.

But lets face it, why stay here if you're not willing to surrender to some of the magic and science of astrology? The hotel offers a number of Astro packages; the Star Charts packages (from $229 for per person and $265 for two people) includes accommodation for up to two guests with a personalised star chart on arrival, moon calendar and slippers; and The Off The Charts package (from $329 for per person and $469 for two people) includes accommodation for up to two people with a one-hour face-to-face astrology reading with the Stars Like You team, moon calendar and slippers.

The concept of an astrology hotel is niche, but Damian Rocks believes the theme hits the right spot when it comes to creating individualised hotel and travel experiences. How you experience a place and how it affects you can vary according to your astrology, Rock said at the hotel launch on Wednesday. With so many hotels aiming for to deliver that unique and individual experience, maybe The Ultimo has got it right leaving it all up to the stars.

8Hotels will be launching three new hotels in Sydney later this year: Little Albion, a 35-room luxury guest house hotel in Surry Hills; and Felix, a 150 room hotel at Sydney's Airport.

The hotel chain operates 21 properties across Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra, Brisbane, Perth, Thredbo, Daylesford , Bali, Fiji and Paris.

Room rates start from $139 to $329 per night. The hotel is offering a 20 per per cent discount off its Astrology packages for the months of February and March. See www.theultimo.com.au
