OUR DAUGHTER TURNS TWO JUST AFTER WE FLY TO GERMANY. ON THE RETURN SHE'S OBVIOUSLY OVER TWO. DO WE PAY A 10 PER CENT INFANT FARE OR A 75 PER CENT CHILD FAIR? HUGE DIFFERENCE. F. BYRNE, SYDNEY

It all depends on the airline. British Airways says this: "If you're travelling with an infant who reaches the age of 2 during their journey, your child will need their own seat for any flights on and after their 2nd birthday. We won't charge you extra for this; you'll only pay the infant fare for the entire journey." However many other European carriers would apply the child fare for the return journey. On Lufthansa flights, "children who turn two during the trip will require their own seat and will be charged on a child fare." That's a more common practice.
