Where are the best places to spend 10 days around Amsterdam?

Any suggestions where to go for 10 days after our cruise ends in Amsterdam? C. Evans, Hawthorn East VIC
Amsterdam deserves four nights at least, but what about Belgium? The big attractions are Brussels, Bruges and Ghent, with Liege, Namur, Spa and Mons in the reserves. Getting around pocket-sized Belgium by train is easy. You could even base yourself somewhere central such as Brussels and do day trips around the other cities.
