AFTER FINISHING THE CAMINO DE COMPOSTELA IN OCTOBER COULD I JOIN A TOUR IN THE NORTH OF PORTUGAL, CATCH A FERRY TO TOUR IN MOROCCO, THEN FLY OR CRUISE UP TO THE NETHERLANDS? I LIKE SOME ACTIVITY, CULTURE, PEOPLE AND AUTHENTICITY. M. SORENSEN, BURRANEER NSW

The outstanding attraction of northern Portugal is the Douro River Valley. This is the region where port wine comes from, sourced from grapes grown on the steep, terraced hills along the river. It's a wonderful part of the country dotted with small villages and quintas, the wine estates, where tradition reigns supreme. Douro Kayak Expeditions dourokayak.com/kayaking-trips/ is one of several kayak tour operators but you can find several riverboat cruises on Viator viator.com From Porto you could fly to Casablanca in Morocco. There are several Australia-based adventure operators that offer tours of Morocco including Peregrine Adventures, peregrineadventures.com/en-au, and Meera Freeman if you're looking for something more personal .meerafreeman.com.au/pages/default.asp?ID=9, whose tour departs from Casablanca on November 4. Most tours finish in Marrakech or Casablanca, from where you could fly to Amsterdam but a cruise from Morocco to Amsterdam is not an easy option.
