The outstanding attraction of northern Portugal is the Douro River Valley. This is the region where port wine comes from, sourced from grapes grown on the steep, terraced hills along the river. It's a wonderful part of the country dotted with small villages and quintas, the wine estates, where tradition reigns supreme.
