At the heartland of western Europe, Switzerland offers easy access to a huge diversity of experiences. Within just a few hours from most parts of Switzerland you can be in the glorious Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes region of France, the alpine lakes and mountains of northern Italy, the Tyrolean region of Austria or Bavaria and Baden-Wurttemberg. Each comes with wonderful cities with great cultural assets, fabulous food, relaxed lifestyle at that time of the year and awesome scenery.

The choice boils down to personal preference, but in July and August all these places are going to be packed, and France and Italy will be bursting at the seams. Despite that, I'd be heading for the Alsace region of France, staying in Colmar with tips to Strasbourg and Mulhouse and walks in the national parks. Austria would be another great choice, and with Innsbruck, Salzburg and Vienna on your itinerary, you've got plenty to like.
