Travel tips: Best Koh Samui resorts for great food, beach location and walking distance to cafes and shops

Outrigger Koh Samui Beach Resort.

VISITING KOH SAMUI WITH MY HUSBAND. WE'RE ACTIVE 60-YEAR-OLDS, LOOKING FOR RELAXING ACCOMMODATION WITH GREAT FOOD, NICE BEACH LOCATION, WALKING DISTANCE TO SHOPS AND CAFES WITH GOOD QUALITY FACILITIES AND ROOMS IN A RELAXING ATMOSPHERE. K. CHONG, DUDLEY NSW

One Samui resort that might work for you is the Zazen Boutique Resort & Spa [www.samuizazen.com]. Located on the quieter western end of Bophut Beach, Zazen consists of two dozen large, individual guest villas. Garden villas offer more privacy than the beachfront deluxe villas. The garden setting is gorgeous and decor blends Thai with elements of Moroccan, Chinese and Japanese. The pool is small but there's a fine-dining restaurant, a cafe and spa with open pavilions set beside a lotus pond. The food is really outstanding. The shops and restaurants of Fisherman's Village are a 20-minute walk along the beach.Saree Samui [www.sareesamui.com] on the shores of delightful Maenam Beach and Outrigger Koh Samui [outrigger.com] are other resorts worth considering, although the Outrigger is slightly remote from shopping and dining alternatives.
