Such is our national thirst for travel that it’s been said that wherever you go in the world you’re liable to come across an Australian at some point somewhere. Nowadays, while on the subject of thirst, and, for that matter, hunger, it seems that wherever there is fine food and wine you’re also likely to encounter your compatriots.
Nowhere is this more the case than in France where many Australians have forged careers in what remains the world’s most formidable wine industry. Among them are Richard Serisier a leading winemaker with close Australian connections.
Richard is a special guest on our latest 12-day reader tour to magnificent Bordeaux in partnership with Scenic. And with this being our first fully food and wine-themed reader tour, who better to join Richard than Fairfax Media’s stellar food and wine scribes Jill Dupleix and Terry Durack who will accompany readers for the full 12-days of this truly appetising tour.
As always, we’ve planned a host of unique experiences for this exclusive tour for Traveller readers with special private visits to Richard’s and other wineries, where, yes, you’ll be able to taste their drops.
And there’s also a private guided tour of Bordeaux’s striking La Cite du Vin wine museum with its managing director, Philippe Massol. Located by the Garonne River, the visit will come complete with a special talk tailored for Traveller Tours guests.
Of course, Jill and Terry will lend their own culinary acumen throughout the tour both on board the luxurious Scenic Diamond and at its exclusive Scenic Culinaire cooking class venue, a wonderful complement to the glories of French cuisine, as well as on food and wine themed shore excursions.
One of the tour highlights will be right at the beginning in Bordeaux when Jill and Terry host a welcome dinner for readers at the Michelin-starred Le Saint James restaurant.
You’ll be regaled by tales of their careers as leading food writers and restaurant critics as well as their love of French cuisine and wine.
All in all think of our exciting Bordeaux tour, an unforgettable 12-days in one of France’s great and historic wine centres, as your very own Good Food Cruise.
