Ultimate Christmas gift guide for different kinds of travellers: What to buy a traveller?

If you have a traveller or two on your Christmas list, lucky you: to seek a gift for a traveller, after all, is to choose from a world of possibility. From gadgets to garments, luggage to lingerie, beach towels to ear buds, we're always in need of a little something to make life on the road better.

We like things that give us comfort or which offer convenience. We might have a penchant for taking a little piece of home with us on our journeys, or we must just adore social media and the gadgets that go with it. We always need things to make airport waits more endurable and flights more comfortable, things to record our thoughts and memories, things to inspire us or amuse us, or things to set us on our way (a little gift card will never go astray).

The key, though, when it comes to successful gift giving, is to consider what type of traveller you have on your list, because we all have our preferences and quirks. It's no good buying the same thing for a fan of cruise travel as for an adventurous sort. That plan of action has refund – or re-gift – written all over it.

100 Aussie Things.

100 Aussie Things.

And so, with this, our 2017 Christmas gift guide, we've suggested 10 kinds of traveller and some fun and inspiring presents to suit.

Happy shopping.

PERSONAL GIFT GUIDE

JASON MINTY – MANAGING DIRECTOR, BECKER MINTY

IF I COULD HAVE ONE TRIP FOR CHRISTMAS IT WOULD BE ...

Two weeks in a fabulous resort somewhere in Sri Lanka. I'm aching for some sun and a holiday experience that doesn't require me to lift a finger – with the exception of sipping on a cocktail of course.

IF I CAN'T HAVE THAT I WOULD LIKE ...

I'd kill for a new set of luggage. I keep hearing great things about Rimowa, but haven't yet experienced it myself. It's also time for an upgrade of my old SLR Camera – I'm thinking Leica, of course.

THE BEST TYPE OF CHRISTMAS TRAVEL GIFT TO GIVE IS ...

Definitely a Mr & Mrs Smith Gift card – you can't beat the ultimate gift of travel, a cashmere travel set (eye mask, socks and throw) or a fabulous F. Hamman Grooming kit or Manicure kit – they are super luxe and so beautifully made – oh, that German precision!

THE BEST CHRISTMAS LOCATION IS …

Oh, so many, but let's go with New York. It's all about the weather, the food and the shopping. Germany's many cities which have such beautiful Christmas markets (Wiesbaden is a great example) comes a close second. I can smell the gluhwein from here.

THE ONE SHOP FROM MY TRAVELS THAT I LOVE THE MOST IS ...

MONC XIII, Sag Harbour, New York. Natasha Esch's exquisite selection of furniture, home and accessories. It's like stepping into her home – a space where she shares her love of old and new, where traditional meets modern.

NICOLA CERRONE, FOUNDER, CERRONE JEWELLERS (SEE CERRONE.COM.AU )

IF I COULD HAVE ONE TRIP FOR CHRISTMAS IT WOULD BE ...

December is such a busy time of year for us with Christmas shopping and proposals. However, if I could, I would be in the Alps in northern Italy. The landscape, the local cuisine and shopping are breathtaking.

IF I CAN'T HAVE THAT I WOULD LIKE ...

An Armani leather briefcase is high on my list. Their leather is great quality – and practical when travelling.

THE BEST TYPE OF CHRISTMAS TRAVEL GIFT TO GIVE IS ...

Nothing says "I love you" more than jewellery. A classic pair of pearls or diamond stud earrings from Cerrone Jewellers make the perfect travelling accessory – classic yet elegant. Or cufflinks for the man.

THE BEST CHRISTMAS LOCATION IS …

Our family home in Kangaloon, in the NSW Southern Highlands. This is where we spend many weekends and Christmases with extended family and friends. The local community is so friendly and we always feel rested after time spent there. Home really is where the heart – and plenty of food – is!

THE ONE SHOP FROM MY TRAVELS THAT I LOVE THE MOST IS ...
