MY WIFE AND I PLAN TO ARRIVE IN LONDON ON SEPTEMBER 18 AND HIRE A CAR FOR TWO WEEKS AND TRAVEL TO IRELAND. WE WILL TAKE THE CAR ON THE FERRY FROM PEMBROKE TO ROSSLARE, RETURNING FROM DUBLIN TO HOLYHEAD. IS THERE ANY PROBLEM WITH BOOKING THE CAR FERRY ONLINE?

R. MOORE, FAIRY MEADOW

Booking online is definitely the way to go and you can make your bookings easily on the Irish Ferries website (irishferries.com).

Taking the smallest vehicle on the ferry from Pembroke to Rosslare plus the two of you will cost £154.00.

The return journey from Dublin to Holyhead will cost £140.00.

This is £153 more than the cost if you were to travel without your hire car.

Therefore you could save if you were to leave your UK vehicle in Pembroke and pick up another when you get to Ireland, although this is more complicated.

There are several daily sailings on these routes but you should book soon to ensure that you get the departure you want.

Also, as since our dollar is steaming south against the pound, a booking made now will lock in at the current rate of exchange.
