Looking for accommodation for myself and two daughters in New York City. Preferably a centrally located apartment. what are the must-do sightseeing spots and day trips and how long to spend there? What's the best time to be there and is a Hawaii stopover a good idea? E. Dodson, West Pennant Hills, NSW

Short-term apartment rentals such as those offered on Airbnb and Homeaway are illegal for the most part in New York City. Affina Hotels have apartments at several locations, affinia.com, and Hotel Beacon, beaconhotel.com, also has two-bedroom apartments.

Everyone has their NYC highlights but for me, Fifth Avenue, Central Park, the Frick, MOMA, the Guggenheim, the High Line walk, a Broadway show or three, Times Square and Radio City Music Hall are just a few.

Any time between mid-September and mid-October is a great time to visit New York City. A little cooler, the summer crowds are gone and Central Park is in autumn blush mode.

A week is the absolute minimum, two weeks is optimal, and a Hawaii stopover is a great idea.
