WHERE'S YOUR FAVOURITE TABLE IN LOS ANGELES?

Nick Hatsatouris often heads to Night + Market in LA.

At Night + Market. Having visited Thailand many times and given that there is a Thai restaurant on every corner back in Australia, I grew up eating a lot of Thai food. At Night + Market, the chef pushes the boundaries of what you normally see on Thai menus in the US, plus he uses great ingredients. See nightmarketsong.com.

YOUR LOCAL FOOD FIND OF THE PAST YEAR?

(Formerly of Sydney's Tetsuya's and Duke Bistro) chef Thomas Lim at Goldie's does a great job adding creative dishes to the California-inspired menu. See goldiesla.com.

WHAT'S WEST HOLLYWOOD'S BEST-KEPT FOOD SECRET?

It's not really a secret but Los Angeles has amazing sushi, but if you want to try it, then you should definitely try Sushi Park. It's a bit of a secret in itself – in an unassuming strip mall (8539 Sunset Boulevard, West Hollywood.)

WHAT'S YOUR FAVOURITE FOOD IN WEST HOLLYWOOD?

I love the roti with beef curry or crab fried rice at Night + Market.

WHAT'S HOT IN THE AREA RIGHT NOW?

Gracias Madre. While vegan food is not necessarily my thing, I feel that Gracias Madre redefines the typical vegan restaurant. Gracias Madre is a cool space and has a really great bar with an extensive tequila and mezcal selection. People in Los Angeles love Mexican food and look to eat healthy, which is why I think people have taken to the concept. See graciasmadreweho.com.

BEST TIME TO VISIT AND WHY, FOOD-WISE?

Late summer is the best time. The tomatoes, stone fruits and berries are still perfect but you start to see some early fall produce, like squash, on menus around the city. Also, it's spot prawn season!

WHAT SHOULD A VISITOR AVOID, FOOD-WISE IN WEST HOLLYWOOD?

Food on Sunset Boulevard, from Sunset Plaza to the East. Especially all the bad Mexican in that area.
