Question

We will be visiting London in June and I am interested to know if there are local, three- to four-day tours to the Devon/Hampshire districts. Also, I read there is an all-in-one power adaptor suitable for most countries? Do you know if this is correct and if it's obtainable in Sydney?

- D. Oliver, Coogee.

Answer

One of the biggest operators of coach tours in England is Shearings Holidays (see shearings.com/uk). It has a range of tours, priced from about £150 ($267.80) a person, for four nights. Rather than wading through their website, I would suggest emailing Shearings with your requirements to see what is available on the dates you wish to travel.

Another company worth contacting would be Grand UK Holidays (see grandukholidays.com), although it has few trips of less than five days.

A good resource for comparing available tours is coachholidays.com, which features tours from several companies.

The Back Roads Touring Co (see backroadstouring.co.uk) may be an alternative, as it hosts four-day, small group tours to those districts. The tours are not cheap, about $1200 a person for four days, but the price includes boutique accommodation, most meals and all touring, guides and entrance fees.

Regarding adaptors, there are all-in-one adaptors that will convert in either direction for any plug type but you cannot buy them in Australia, due to government regulations. You can wait and buy one overseas, or you can buy a multi-pack of adaptors for less than $30.
