Attention, travelling families looking for a holiday spot with "it all": the sparkling new Avani+ Khao Lak will keep the brood as busy – or as laid back – as they want to be.

Minor Hotels' playful (yet conference-ready) brand Avani has opened an oceanfront property at Bangsak Beach in Thailand's Phang Nga province on the country's mainland.

But first, the road in. Thailand has just removed the need for a pre-departure PCR test (April 1). The country's current general entry protocol is called Test & Go, under which fully-vaccinated travellers (two shots completed at least 14 days prior) must stay on arrival for one night at an SHA+ (Special Health Accommodation) certified hotel. There, they must pay for and take a PCR test and stay at the hotel until receiving results. They must also take a rapid antigen test on day five of their holiday.

There are hundreds of hotels (web.thailandsha.com/shaextraplus) to choose from – and Avani+ Khao Lak is one of them.

However, if travelling straight to Phuket and not going anywhere else, the relevant system is the Phuket Sandbox, which allows travellers to visit Phuket province without having to undergo quarantine. They need only have a negative PCR test result before they can move about (and must stay in Phuket for at least seven nights before being allowed to visit other parts of Thailand).

It's a moveable feast and there are other little details to it, so keep up with the relevant government websites and keep your eye on the prize: a 10-hectare resort that has four swimming pools, one of them decked out as a water park, a two-storey kids' club, indoor and outdoor rock climbing walls, tennis court and even its own skate park.

Avani+ Khao Lak is also the launch site for the brand's new concept AvaniFit, a 24-hour facility offering endurance programs as well as boxing, rock climbing or tennis lessons, hanging yoga, "beach assault courses", pool workouts and water sport tuition such as kayaking, on-property PADI lessons and surfing nearby. Try sunrise yoga, cooking classes, bicycle tours and a range of active or not-so excursions.

When exhausted by all that, there's the AvaniSpa where kids' treatments are offered as well as a range of adult therapies across six treatment rooms. Healthy menus or multi-day nutrition and wellness packages are on offer and there's a dedicated juice bar.

Avani+ Khao Lak Resort is 90 kilometres north of Phuket International Airport and around 90 minutes away by car.

From $250 a night. See avanihotels.com
